RESTORING TRUTH AND SANITY TO AMERICAN HISTORY

On May 20th, US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum ordered the National Park Service to post signs at park sites around the country. This includes Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie. The signs invite visitors to submit feedback on areas of the site that need improvement or repair as well as “signs or other information that are negative about either past of living Americans.” This directive has led many liberal academics and WOKE historians to worry that the modern reinterpretation of history they have been painting America with for the past few decades may be coming to an end. President Trump has de-scribed their reinterpretation as a “distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth,” and this writer thinks he’s right. The local newspaper (The PC paper) not surprisingly, seemed to be alarmed by the Park Service’s new interest in what Americans think about reinterpreting our history. The paper’s recent article on the subject consisted primarily of interviews with liberal historians who are very worried that they may have to acknowledge some historical views they would rather ignore. It’s about time they have to look at the whole truth and not just the selective version they want us to know.
Let’s hope this new direction that the Park Service is taking continues to bring America back to an appreciation of our proud history, all of our history, and the next time you’re at one of our National Parks, drop them a note and let them know what you think.
